NEW PERSPECTIVE

Collective Exhibition
On View: Mar 1–13 2023

Throughout its history both in New York and abroad, a dedication to raw interpretations and cutting-edge approaches has been at the forefront of Saphira & Ventura Gallery’s mission. In its upcoming exhibition, the S&V Gallery will launch five artists, of differing talents and ideas, as part of its New Perspective collective.

In the anticipated exhibition, New Perspective, curated by Alcinda Saphira, the gallery unites a collection of differing versatile artists, among these is Barbara Shelly, a local New York artist, specializing in mixed-media works, including materials such as newspaper, ink, and paint, giving the work a strong textural element. Shelly’s works touch on a variety of themes, her experience with the performing arts and fashion playing an important role. The exhibition will also feature the works of Elke Schmölzer’s Stonesfaces series, a collection influenced by the diverse colors and shapes of stones in the waters of the Salzburg mountains she grew up with. Having exhibited throughout Europe, her participation in exhibitions in Austria and Luxembourg has won her acclaim.

In the case of FAN, likewise a mixed-media artist, her use being mainly acrylic, pen and markers, on a black background and metallic colors. The subject matter, however, is of a unique case. “I wonder about the ecological problem. On the problem of becoming.” says FAN, addressing the issue of ecosystem destruction. In her work the artist captures the abundant beauty of nature, the changes of plants, insects, and other organic matter, both visible and invisible. In the tradition of abstraction, the gallery will exhibit the works of New York based artist, Joanne Handler, an artist whose paintings draw inspiration from a variety of iconic songs. The use of precise colors and form in her canvas works highlight Handler’s studious approach to capturing a powerful framing of the abstract and figurative elements she wishes to present.

Marta Spagnol, based in Chapecó, Brazil, has a strong devotion to colors and its seductive vibrancy. An admirer of floral beauty, her works contain these rich themes touching on Brazilian cultures and a variety of ethnic influences.
