PLURALITIES IN PICTURES

Collective Exhibition
April 19 – May 1, 2023

Whether the artist engages with colors, forms, and a variety of subject matters, a strong indicator of what shapes the work is a plurality of elements ranging from technique to form, etc… In a revitalizing exhibition celebrating these wide elements, Saphira & Ventura is proud to present Pluralities in Pictures, an exhibition, featuring a collection curated by Alcinda Saphira, with global artists ranging from different continents under a single roof. Guests will have the opportunity to attend the reception on April 19 2023 from 6pm to 8pm.

Honoring the vast characteristics that spring into life the subjects, colors, and lines of an artwork, the exhibition Pluralities in Pictures features eight artists, highlighting their unique style and approach to manifesting visual imagery. In regards to floral beauty, the artist Lonell Nellessen has won great acclaim in New York recently for her solo exhibition at the gallery. Nellessen’s brilliant expressions of color in her works align with the blooming ethos of her subject matter. This subject matter is also one expressed by Irene Van Celestine, honing in both the human and floral qualities, she positions her subjects in fantastic scenery among which features iconic creatures together with the sinuous shapes of the human form. Similar themes can be found in the works of Rachael Brown, with a strong focus on the dynamic texture of her works, both floral and landscape, which captivates visitors with its semi-three dimensional nature. Inspired by the waters and flowing rivers of her native Austria, the painter, Elke Schmolzer lives up to Nature’s phenomena by anthropologizing the gentle stones among these rivers. Her Stone Faces exhibition in 2022 being a widely acclaimed event. Also from Austria is artist, Martina Hartusch, devoted mostly to the abstract school, she cites surrealism but also Gerhard Richter as an influence on her work. This will be her debut exhibition in New York. Regarding local artists, Rita BasuMallick, has been featured beforehand in the gallery, her gentle abstracted landscapes being particularly appreciated as a signature style of her approach. Pluralities in Pictures will also feature the photographs of Elisabeth Wortsman, works whose almost kinetic-like quality and sharp colors enchant the eyes. Her work has been featured in the gallery’s Scope Miami booth as well as several exhibitions in Brazil and Italy. The playful mixed media works of Flavia Jackson, will likewise make their debut in the gallery. Her themes consist of powerful sentiments ranging from grace and love to courage and determination. S&V Gallery welcomes visitors to explore the various vital forces represented by the artists in the plurality of their expressions.
