Empower Her Art Forum

After its successful exhibition in 2022, Saphira & Ventura and the New York International Contemporary Art Society (NYICAS) is excited to announce its return to Cairo for the inauguration of the EMPOWER HER ART FORUM, a multinational exhibition dedicating to raising women’s voices and the empowering ethos of art. Working in collaboration with ARTODAY, the first edition will take place at The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday, May 20th and will run until May 24th, 2023.

ARTODAY, a social enterprise based in Egypt with a mission to combat humanitarian issues through art has been active in its commitment to bring awareness to critical events and help enrich the lives of those in its domestic and international audiences. This exhibition will be featuring pieces from female artists of 34 different countries, guests will also be able to attend workshops and panel discussions.

In honor and gratitude to Artoday for its invitation, Saphira & Ventura Gallery is proud to exhibit its artists including New York based Bari Bing, known for her poignant use of primary colors and admiration for the art deco tradition. Having exhibited in Venice last year, Bari Bing’s iconic style has been shown in various international circles where her aesthetic most keenly shines. Barbara Shelly, an artist likewise based in New York, will also be exhibited, in her clarity of depicting alla mode figures of iconic fashion, Shelley creates stunning figures ranging in a mixed media approach with a contemporary flair. Likewise in the realm of fashion, Barbara Taylor Ahlfield’s delicate and academic style has been a trademark of her artworks. A fashion illustrator for many years, Ahlfield has mastered the art of the human form and has had her works exhibited in multiples cities around the globe. Maria T. Ason, also a NY artist and member of the Puerto Rican Women Painters Association, and whose works has been exhibited in Los Angeles and Miami, Ason’s dedication to art, graphic design, and drawing has been a staple to her career as an artist. Similar in her dedication is NY-based photographer Erika Fujyama, ever-dedicated to the perfect image, Fujyama’s art captures a cinematic landscape of New York’s cosmopolitan nature, featuring elaborate sequences of color, form and cultural language. Figurative art, on the other hand, is the language of Irene Van Celestine, also a NY based artist, Celestine touches on humanist themes in her artworks, introducing floral and mythical elements, dazzling her audience with a fascinating scenery of opulent figures and enchanting creatures. Also encompassing the figurative tradition, Anna Hopfensberger, of Munich is an artist whose vivacious caricatures capture their viewers with playful figures and animated narratives. The gallery will also be exhibiting Mali Perry, a dynamic artist honing in contemporary technological components in her art. Having exhibited in Madison Square Garden for the gallery’s celebrated Sport is Art exhibition, and Meagan J. Meehan, an interdisciplinary artist and writer likewise based in New York. Meehan’s stories encapsulate the visual arts, theatre, music, and cinema, yet her work also touches on themes relating to literature, travel, and fashion. The gallery is also delighted to exhibit an iconic sculpture by French sculptor Camille Claudel.
