SOLO EXHIBITION

In its continuing tradition of its parallel exhibitions in Venice, Saphira & Ventura is proud to present the mixed-media pieces of Hijo Nam, an artist not altogether new to the gallery’s repertoire but one whose works have been extolled in many exhibitions ranging from Dubai, London, New York, among others. This solo exhibition, as part of the gallery’s Side by Side series will have its vernissage on the 24th of September from 18:30 to 21:00 at Via Garibaldi 1815 Venice, Italy, 30122 until September 30, 2022. 

An admirer of traditional Korean techniques, mixed-media artist, Hijo Nam mastered many traditional Korean techniques for handling materials such as lacquer (Ottchil), Hanji, and fabrics, applying them without limiting materials or genres for the her own free expression. The artist, based in Seoul and New York, works without restrictions on various techniques and materials such as canvas, wood, iron, ceramics, and Korean traditional lacquer. Her works have also been present within the digital market and has been present in Chicago’s NeoCon, the Palm Beach Show, and exhibitions in New York by the gallery. Her works can also be found on the gallery’s Artsy page, which includes NFT and traditional physical pieces as well. The exhibition explores both sides of her works, focusing on the traditions which has shaped her career as an artist in Korea while also diving into the digital manifestations that has brought her pieces to the virtual world. Her fabric works, which exude her potency in uniting form and texture to create immaculate representations, together with other works that from a variety of mediums.

Side by Side | Analogs & NFTs | Sept 24–30

SIDE BY SIDE | ANALOGS & NFTS

Whereas physical art has played a great role in history, the place of digital art and NFTs have begun emerging in the last quarter of a century and has taken an immense dimension during the Covid-19 pandemic as galleries were under quarantine. The 2022 Venice Biennale awakens itself to these realities and provides guests with a wide variety of both traditional works (analogs) as well as diverse collections of Non-Fungible Tokens. Such is Saphira & Venturas’s newest exhibition in Via Garibaldi with a spotlight on Korean artist, Hijo Nam. The exhibition is curated by Alcinda Saphira and will have its opening reception on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 18:30 until 21:00. Visitors may rsvp or arrive as walk-ins from the opening until the closing on September 30.

Analogs & NFTs is the fourth in a series of exhibitions entitled Side By Side that focus on the gallery’s commitment to showcasing contemporary works in its collection during the acclaimed Biennale. This exhibition has a spotlight on Korean artist Hijo Nam, a mixed-media artist, who mastered many traditional Korean techniques for handling materials such as lacquer (Ottchil), Hanji, and fabrics, applying them without limiting materials or genres for the her own free expression. The gallery will also be exhibition a collection of analog works by abstract works by Joanne Handler and Melissa McCraken as well as pieces in the figurative tradition such as those by Rene Nascimento, Alfonso Segovia, Phyllis Shipley, and Huang Xiang. Digital works, in the forms of NFTs will also be exhibited such as those by Rosie Kim, Hwichan Ko, Abby Perillo, Aro, Daphne Anastassiou, Elisabeth Worstman, and Victoria Citro

Side by Side | Inspired by Great Moments | Sept 16–22

SIDE BY SIDE | INSPIRED BY GREAT MOMENTS

As its third exhibition during the 2022 Venice Biennale, Saphira & Ventura is proud to present Side By Side Inspired By Great Moments, an international exhibition curated by Alcinda Saphira featuring an array of artists whose works serve as the artistic manifestation of their inspirations and influences. The exhibition will also feature a spotlight on multidisciplinary artist Bari Bing, and a series of the gallery’s iconic artists. The opening reception will be held at Via Garibaldi 1815

in Venice, Italy and will start on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 18:30 until 21:00. Visitors may rsvp or arrive as walk-ins from the opening until the closing on September 22. The artworks will also be available for view on Artsy and the gallery’s social media.

Among the collection that Inspired by Great Moments are artists that the gallery selected as a uniting force for this exhibition, they include works that utilize colors and shading in a lush and playful technique such as those by Derrick Desrosiers, Adriana Soares, and Rene Nascimento, to works by iconic Chinese poet and artist, Huang Xiang, together with Roby Frankel, a geometric artist based in Chicago as well as figurative artists inspired by poetic and mythical stories and concepts such as Brinton Farrand, and Irene van Celestine, while also showcasing works by Andrey Kozakov and the musical and floral works of Phyllis Shipley. The exhibition will also cast a spotlight on abstract artist, Bari Bing, and her works focusing on primary colors, inspired by the architecture and design of cities such as New York and Miami.

Side by Side | International Identidy | Sept 8–14

side by side | INTERNATIONAL IDENTITY

After a triumphant opening in August in its return to Venice, Saphira & Ventura Gallery will be unveiling its second exhibition, International Identity, focusing on a select series of contemporary artists hailing from different parts of the globe. Saphira & Ventura Gallery with the support of the New York International Contemporary Art Society, closely located next to the Giardini, the gallery opens its doors on September 08 at 17h at the D.O.R.A.H on Via Garibaldi 1815, Venice 30122.. 

In this upcoming exhibition, International Identity, the gallery explores a variety of international components such as regional influences, social commentary, engaging new mediums and much more, featuring artists in both digital and physical formats, the gallery promotes a phygital environment curated by Alcinda Saphira, the exhibition will exhibit artists such as Keith Manning, Diane Detalle, Fernando Santos, Andrea Tagliepietra, Yusuke Akamatsu, Bari Bing, Charles Lívio Payne, Hijo Nam, Kelly Fischer, Paolo Terdich, Vikash Jha, Gui Calil, Joel Douek, Ashley Condina.

These artists make up the principal pieces of the exhibitions. Together with these works the exhibition will also feature the Amazônia Phygital Installation with pieces by Geraldo Teixeira, Maycon Nunes, Odair Mindello, Meireles Junior, Liz Carvalho, Marize Koerich, Gloria Dumit, Rogerio Martins, Vera Hermano.

International Identity invites the local and visiting patron to interact with these pieces, each touching on different themes and mediums. As part of the SIDE BY SIDE series, the works engage the community of the Venice Biennale in this multinational atmosphere where identity and culture play a significant role in the arts.
