Instituto Favela da Paz

Instituto Favela da Paz

Venice Architecture Biennial 2021

Patricia O’Reilly, architect and urban planner, author of the social project Instituto Favela da Paz (Favela da Paz Institute), located in São Paulo, in Jardim Angela, and thanks to the urban requalification of its area, allowed us to see the possibilities and open up new horizons in the art of architecture that has the main goal to shelter people in a space created by people. People sharing the same address in the universe.

Serving to create the world that we dream of…

The mission was to bring to the world of architecture, urbanism and art, tools and materials that helped shape the project in such a way that allows it to come together into something that gives its users the recognition that they seek. We entered the worlds of technology, art, and design, to project a way that impacts the “place” in a positive manner.

The requalification of the area becomes a precedent to be followed in other communities around the world. It integrates the urban space of the favela with that of the city through the restoration of sustainably designed public spaces. It also creates inputs that accelerate the education around sustainability. A main objective is to dismantle a dividing line that dooms everybody living on one side of it, with crippling discrimination. Using nature, architecture and art, this line starts to initially get blurred, until it ultimately ends up fading away completely, and with it, the discrimination that once existed.

The projects have already been done, our next step is to invite sponsors to make this utopia becomes reality.

The project is a requalification of the environment, sustainability, healthiness, social inclusion and training of manpower. It recreates the microcosm in a living building with visceral, cultural, technological, gastronomical, ecological, artistic and true content. Together with the favela community they create: architecture, art, urban furniture, design and knowledge. The goal is to meet the desires of this organization that can change the inner world of everyone involved.

The urban revitalization project and the new building of the Favela da Paz Institute becomes a model for replication in several places.

Located at South region of São Paulo, Brazil, the main goal of the Project is to strengthen Favela da Paz Institute, offering a cultural, educational, artistic and a revenue generator place.
The urban upgrading and the building itself reach all the community in several age range, enhancing knowledge, bringing peace and expanding the existing Institute project.
It is the door that reaches social justice, transforming it into a multiplying agent of sustainability, technology, art and love.

The Path of Consciousness

The Path of Consciousness

Venice Architecture Biennial 2021

Neil Kerman, Antonio Spinosa, Nicolas Fiedler, Samuel Garcia, Edo Rocha, Jean Sardinha and Ricardo D’acundo, present their project: “The Path of Consciousness”. Art has always been an inseparable companion of architecture. In their project, the works of a visual artist, a designer and an architect, represent how Kerman reveals his sensitivity as a master of abstract chemistry. The Path of Consciousness is developed by five creative minds. It’s a collaboration among Neil Kerman’s paintings, the sculptural vision of Antonio Spinosa, the structural design of Nicolas Fiedler, the graphics of the architect Samuel Garcia and the reference of Edo Rocha’s stadium architecture.

The Path of Consciousness represents the connection between art, architecture and design, through the perfection of form and function. The concept is materialized by Kerman’s art by beautifying both Edo’s stadium and the sculpture created by Spinosa, Nicholas and Samuel.

Neil Kerman

Neil Kerman was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, where he now creates his art not far from the world-famous Coney Island, crediting the multi-faceted borough.
He is truly honored that he was also invited to exhibit his art around the world including Spain, Switzerland, England, France, Singapore, Hong Kong, Brazil and Monaco. In addition, it was his astounding privilege to have his works exhibited at the Louvre in Paris, France.

Antonio Spinosa

Antonio Spinosa’s carbon steel sculpture is graphic. This phrase would be absurd, if written in the 19th century; and immediately contested. This is because until the 20th century, sculpture was a volumetric form in space. The artist calls a series of his sculptures Fitas, others the series is Laços or Chamas, but the sculpture graphically traverses space, often such sculptural graphics form enigmas on the wall, like copper sheets, until they become illuminated panels. Finally, Spinosa’s graphic sculpture reached the ceiling, as it did in the decorated environment of Casa Cor, in an Architecture project.

Nicolas Fiedler

Nicolas Fiedler is the Creative Director of Fiedler Engineering, Advanced Design Researcher of e-Dau Institute and Consultant of Fiedler Institute of Tensile Structure Technology. Nicolas sees the future on the shoulders of his ancestors and understand that parametric, intelligent design can solve problems that didn’t even exist in the past. In the project The Path of Consciousness his design purpose was to create an atemporal structure, so genuine that can be installed anywhere, even in another planet, and still make you reflect on that specific environment.

Samuel Garcia

Samuel Garcia is an architect and one of the partners of Studio Papaya, a creative studio based in São Paulo, Brazil, founded in 2015. The work developed by the studio encompasses different areas of activity and project scales, divided in three fields that complement each other: Architecture, Design and Visual Arts. From developing autoral projects to collaborating with renowned architects and designers, the studio acquired important recognition in its projects. The believes behind Papaya ́s works is that ideas deserve attention to the smallest details, that every idea can be translated into a project, have a history, an identity, become reality.

Deconstructions | Apr 11–17 2022

Deconstructions

Phygital Exhibition

On view: April 11 – 17 2022
4 W 43rd St. #416, New York, NY 10036

Presenting a collective exhibition of five unique contemporary artists, Deconstructions invites guests to behold contemporary pieces and the mesmerizing power of both their beauty and aesthetic statement. A Phygital exhibition, both physical and digital, the opening reception will be held on April 13 from 6pm to 8:30pm at Saphira & Ventura Gallery located on 4 W 43rd St. #416 New York, NY and run until April 17 2022.

New York, NY March 28__In the vast metropolitan culture of New York, various meanings can be dismantled and deconstructed. In its newest exhibition, Saphira & Ventura Gallery presents a collective touching on five artists. Guests will have the opportunity to see the fine conceptual pieces by Hijo Nam, an artist based in South Korea who experiments with various materials, ranging from wood, steel, oil, acrylic, and other mediums. Nam’s pieces have recently been exhibited in Dubai and Palm Beach where her works were received with a warm reception. Hyper-realist, Paolo Terdich, will also be exhibited. Having an exhibition in Venice during the Biennale in 2019, Terdich’s pool works have proven to be popular in the United States as well, along with his still life works. The exhibition will also incorporate the works in their non-fungible token (NFT) format; introducing various artists to the ascending crypto market. This has been the case with the work of Quebec-based artist, Aro, an abstract expressionist artist who elicits gentle yet striking works of balanced abstract strokes in a duochromatic plane. The works in NFT format take the opportunity to play with these strokes and offer a synchronized harmonic balance between the different shapes and colors. In terms of figurative work, the paintings of Rachael Brown will be exhibited, works that illustrate a lush and vibrant floral setting. Her paintings, combining spring colors with a lively, almost performative, approach, reflect the strong inspirations the artist has. Her studio in Aberdeenshire and its nearby coastline, she is greatly influenced by the visual stimulation that surrounds her, such as the colors of the sea, sky, the beauty and tragedy of nature. Finally, the works of Swiss artist, Regula Margrit-Bill will be exhibited. Pieces with a smooth and opaque hue, encompassing a scenic aesthetic that shows the skills of the artist’s background in the School of Design in Bern, Switzerland. The exhibition is curated by Alcinda Saphira and is part of Saphira & Ventura commitment to showcasing the variety of talent in the fields of technology, art, and design.

G20 – Sustainable Solutions

G20 - Sustainable Solutions:

ART & CONFERENCE

THE BROKEN IDYLLY

Venice and the Amazon:
The paradigm of a new sustainability model.
Sustainable Solutions for the G20

Monday, July 5, 2021 – 17.00
Palazzo Mora:
Strada Nova, Cannaregio 3659, 30121 Venice – Italy

Saphira & Ventura Art Design Architecture, in collaboration with YBGSNA & Maoritsyoo, will present the G20 Sustainable Solutions event on the major international event that will bring together the G20 Economy and Finance Ministers summit in Venice. The conference will gather in Venice on July 5th, at Palazzo Mora, a group of international experts who will address issues related to sustainability through a series of conferences.

The narrative parallelism of this event focuses on two fragile realities – Venice and the Amazon – which represent the historical, cultural, and natural order of humanity. The voices of Venice and the Amazon, despite their different declines, will create a concrete experience of unity until they come together.

Venice is an incredible work of art crystallized over time. The industrialization of the 20th century intensified the dangers to the life of the lagoon from man’s work. The discussion that rages today concerns more current issues such as over tourism that has become the economic engine of the historic center, the depopulation of the city, the growing damage caused by the frequency of floods and the progressive damage and pollution of the lagoon ecosystem due to cruise ships. On the other side of the planet, in a similar way, the Amazon has lost much of its biodiversity and this degradation is a result of continuous deforestation and climate change. Logging, fires, and the continued encroachment on indigenous lands threaten not only the region’s thriving biological treasures, but also the rich cultural treasures.

Our planet is a single ecosystem whose parts are interdependent and environmental problems pose a real existential threat. This symposium aims to raise awareness, raise awareness, and address issues that are poorly supported due to economic interests, but also open a dialogue between artists, architects, academics, and experts that can culminate in real sustainability actions and end with a conscious progress of society through perfection. combination of environmental sciences, architectural and artistic disciplines. Venice, like the Amazon, can become the paradigm of a new model of socio-environmental sustainability.

The event will start at 5 pm with a guided tour of the Time Space Existence exhibition; will follow a cycle of conferences that will involve personalities who will present the Amazonian reality and the preservation of its culture, such as Dr. Aidalina do Nascimento, Samela Sateré Mawé, Suzan Vasconcelos Valentim and Jackson Alencar Silva. Professor Takashi Yakamoshi, architect Patricia O’Reilly and artist Alexandre Mavignier will propose some sustainable solutions at an architectural and artistic level. Architects Yuval Baer and Joseph Press will illustrate the challenges and opportunities of architecture in the Anthropocene era; all crowned by video art by Maor Michaelov Maoritsyoo: The Burning Bush. The event will close with a presentation by Sergio Pascolo, architect, and professor at the IUAV University of Venice and a lecture by Hélène Molinari, president of SUMus.

The meeting, organized by Saphira & Ventura in collaboration with YBGSNA & Maoritsyoo, and coordinated by Alcinda Saphira and Louis Ventura in the Mora Palace gardens. The cocktail and lectures will start at 6:30 pm, following the rules issued to contain Covid-19’s epidemiological emergency.

Saphira & Ventura Art Design Architecture: located in the heart of New York, it has hosted, since 2012, works of art, architecture and avant-garde design and promotes established and emerging artists in the international art scene. Saphira & Ventura’s mission was realized through the organization of individual and group exhibitions, collaborations with public and private entities, museums, and art fairs, capable of writing essential pages of international contemporary art. The gallery is dedicated to emphasizing the multiple forms of expression capable of meeting the diverse interests of its buyers.
